Assalamu alaikum,
Here are three Picture Reading Comprehension stories for kindergarten insha'Allah. As with the other stories, these have many sight words that children are becoming familiar with (if they are not already familiar with them insha'Allah). These stories, however, are different and more challenging because the child must answer questions based on what they read insha'Allah. Insha'Allah, these stories provide the child with the opportunity to work on memory skills and making meaning from the text they read (to answer the questions insha'Allah, they must successfully understand what the story is about).

ReplyDeleteAhlan dear sister Khayrieh! Wa iyaki wa jazakillahu khayr. For tips on how to be a good storyteller, there are several reference books on this topic at the public library insha'Allah. Have you seen those insha'Allah? I checked one out once but I don't think I ever read it (smile).
When I read to my students, the things that I see that keep them captured is my energy, the voices that I use for each character in the story and how animated I am when different actions occur in the story.
For integrating Islamic values into the stories that you read insha'Allah, have you tried stopping at certain points in the story and talking with children about how we deal with the same scenario in Islam and asking why they feel what a certain character did was not okay and asking what type of advice would they give them, etc.? Many times my students will independently mention why Allah does not like such and such behaviour and what the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wasalam) said about such and such behaviour.
