Book Review

 السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته

Alhamdulillaah, young Muslim children have another Islaamically appropriate book to enjoy! Anfaal's Pretty New Pencils by Wahb at-Tamimi is a cute Early Reader published by DreamForward Books. The illustrations in this book do a wonderful job of supporting the text, which helps young readers decode new or unfamiliar words, and the struggle Anfaal has is one that many young children can relate to. What I liked most about Anfaal's Pretty New Pencils is that the story provides children with the Islaamically appropriate solution to the problem without the solution feeling like a school lesson.

From the publisher's website: Anfaal has a pack of pretty new pencils. She loves her pretty new pencils and can’t wait to take them to school. When Anfaal takes her pretty new pencils to school, her friends like them and want to use them, but Anfaal doesn’t want to share. When Anfaal won’t share, one of her friends stops speaking to her and will not play with her. Will Anfaal and her friend make up or will Anfaal lose a friend because of her pretty new pencils?

Alhamdulillaah, a wonderful new book to add to your home or classroom library inshaa'Allaah!

Disclaimer: The publisher, DreamForward Books, provided me with a copy of this book and, at my request, the image of the book, but did not request I review it, nor did I receive compensation (payment of any type) for my review. DreamForward Books also recently published some of my books but my review was not done in exchange for their publishing my books.

Islaamic Sight Word Book: Fast

السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته

Alhamdulillaah, here is the sixth book in the Islaamic Sight Words Series.  Now that Ramadan has begun alhamdulillaah, children are hearing the word fast very, very often. In'shaa Allaah, this sight word book will help them learn how to spell the word that is on the lips of Muslims world-wide during this blessed month.

The instructions for all activities are included in the mini-book, however, if you have any questions about any of the activities, please leave a comment and I will do my best to answer as soon as possible in'shaa allaah. And jazakillaahu khayr to the sister who suggested adding the Arabic word for the sight words, at the end of each book. Going forward in'shaa Allaah, the sight word books will have the word in Arabic for children to colour and learn.

Quick Post: Islaamic Sight Words Book: Masjid

السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته

Alhamdulillaah, here is the fifth book in the Islaamic Sight Words Series, and this book is getting children prepared for the blessed month of Ramadan! When children accompany family to the masjid for taraweeh, they will, in'shaa allaah, recall the learning they engaged in with this mini-workbook.

The instructions for all activities are included in the mini-book, however, if you have any questions about any of the activities, please leave a comment and I will do my best to answer as soon as possible in'shaa allaah.

You can download the mini-book here, from A Muslim Child is Born's Teacher's Notebook store in'shaa allaah, or below.

After children have completed the Islaamic Sight Words book, they might enjoy the game Build a Masjid from Smart Ark.

In this game, children will work together to build a masjid and they also have the opportunity to work on their math skills. The game emphasizes cooperation and helps young children understand the benefit and fun of working together to accomplish a worthy goal. A wonderful resource to use with the Islaamic Sight Words book!

Enjoy and Benefit In'shaa allaah!

Quick Post: Islaamic Sight Words Mini-Workbook

السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته

Today's Quick Post is an Islaamic Studies Sight Word Mini-Workbook. Kindergartners and students in Grade 1 are introduced to and work with Islaamic words that are used very, very frequently in their homes, in the masjid and in their school in'shaa allaah. Knowing how to spell these words will, in' shaa allaah, help students when they are reading children's books written for and by Muslims and when they are writing their own stories.

The instructions for all activities are included in the mini-book. However, the pages that have sentences with dots under each word do not have instructions, so I'll mention the instructions here. The dots are under each word in the sentence to help children practice one-to-one correspondence. When students read the sentence they will place their finger on each dot beneath each word as they read it - one dot, one word.

You can download the mini-book here or from A Muslim Child is Born's Teacher's Notebook store in'shaa allaah.

Benfit & Enjoy in'shaa allaah!
