Book Review

 السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته

Alhamdulillaah, young Muslim children have another Islaamically appropriate book to enjoy! Anfaal's Pretty New Pencils by Wahb at-Tamimi is a cute Early Reader published by DreamForward Books. The illustrations in this book do a wonderful job of supporting the text, which helps young readers decode new or unfamiliar words, and the struggle Anfaal has is one that many young children can relate to. What I liked most about Anfaal's Pretty New Pencils is that the story provides children with the Islaamically appropriate solution to the problem without the solution feeling like a school lesson.

From the publisher's website: Anfaal has a pack of pretty new pencils. She loves her pretty new pencils and can’t wait to take them to school. When Anfaal takes her pretty new pencils to school, her friends like them and want to use them, but Anfaal doesn’t want to share. When Anfaal won’t share, one of her friends stops speaking to her and will not play with her. Will Anfaal and her friend make up or will Anfaal lose a friend because of her pretty new pencils?

Alhamdulillaah, a wonderful new book to add to your home or classroom library inshaa'Allaah!

Disclaimer: The publisher, DreamForward Books, provided me with a copy of this book and, at my request, the image of the book, but did not request I review it, nor did I receive compensation (payment of any type) for my review. DreamForward Books also recently published some of my books but my review was not done in exchange for their publishing my books.

Ramadan Sight Words Work mat: Du'a

السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته

Alhamdulillaah, here is the fifth Ramadan Sight Words work mat.

Like the pray and moon work mats, this work mat has several interactive elements. That means that this work mat may not be the best choice if you need an activity that your child(ren) can complete with little or no assistance; children will need an adult to read and explain the instructions, so they know how to assemble the mat and use it in shaa' Allaah. However, once assembled, children will enjoy learning with it in shaa' Allaah! You can download the dua work mat here in shaa' Allaah.

Alhamdulillaah, the downloading issue has been resolved, but if for some reason the download does not start when you click on the download button, please leave a comment below. Also, if you have any questions about how to use this or any of the work mats, please leave a comment in shaa' Allaah.

Benefit & Enjoy!

Ramadan Sight Words Work mat: Sawm

السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته

Alhamdulillaah, here is the fourth Ramadan Sight Words work mat.

For this work mat, all children need is a pencil and crayons, but children will need a parent or adult near to read the directions. The mat contains a tracing activity, a sound discrimination activity, and two activities that help children learn to spell the word 'sawm'. Like the other mats, this mat comes with the word 'sawm' in large letters so children can build and work with a word wall, if you choose. Download your free 'sawm' work mat here in shaa' Allaah.

Alhamdulillaah, the downloading issue has been resolved, but if for some reason the download does not start when you click on the download button, please leave a comment below.

Ramadan Sight Words Work mat: Moon

السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته

Alhamdulillaah, here is the third Ramadan Sight Words work mat.

Like the pray work mat, this work mat has interactive elements: the activities at the top of the mat are lift-the-flap activities. Children will cut out each flap, fold along the blue dotted line, then glue the tabs onto the space that has the picture of a glue bottle. There is also a number sequencing activity (the solution to this activity is on the image above), and there is a sound discrimination activity. And like the other mats, there is the word moon in large letters for a Ramadan Word Wall. You can download the 'moon' work mat here in shaa' Allaah.

If for some reason the download does not start when you click on the download button, please leave a comment below (several others continue to experience this problem).

Benefit & Enjoy in shaa' Allaah!

Ramadan Sight Words Work mat: Pray

السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته

Alhamdulillaah, here is the second Ramadan Sight Words work mat.

This work mat has an interactive element: there is a small mini-book that children can assemble easily by cutting out the book cover and gluing it onto the work mat (fine motor skills practice). The directions for assembly are included in the file on the page that has the word pray written in large letters for word wall activities. There is also a word discrimination activity and a following directions activity on the mat as well. You can download the 'pray' work mat here in shaa' Allaah.

If for some reason the download does not start when you click on the download button, please leave a comment below (several others have recently experienced this problem), and a solution will be sought in shaa' Allaah.

Benefit & Enjoy in shaa' Allaah!

Ramadan Readiness: Sight Word Workmats for the Blessed Month

السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته

Alhamdulillaah, the month of Ramadan approaches. It's time to start thinking about getting our littlest ones ready to enjoy, learn about, and participate in this blessed month
in shaa' Allaah. Although our smallest are too young to really understand why we fast and for Whom we fast, we can still help them learn about this month in a way that is developmentally appropriate in shaa' Allaah.

One way to help children between 3-5 years old begin to learn about Ramadan is by having quick, easy activities on hand that are Ramadan related. One goal to complete before Ramadan (I'll do my best, but I make no promises ~smile~) is to post 30 Ramadan Sight Word work mats. These work mats will contain sight words that teach children words about/related to Ramadan; each mat will have cut/paste, writing, colouring activities, and alphabet activities. They are simple, one-page mats that will allow you to print quickly and only need a minimum amount of materials in order for your child to complete the mat in shaa' Allaah.

These mats were also designed with masaajids in mind: when the adults are praying taraweeh, the smallest can be given a mat to complete along with other quiet activities
in shaa' Allaah.

Also, each mat comes with the sight word in large print so parents can, if they choose, start a Ramadan word wall. Each time the child completes a mat, that new word can be added to the word wall and parents can develop other activities that use the word wall (e.g. draw a picture and write a sentence using one of the words on the Ramadan word wall). The work mats can be used separately or they can be used with other Ramadan activities.

The first work mat is the word fast You can download the first mat here in shaa' Allaah, and check back soon for the next sight word, pray.

Benefit & Enjoy in shaa' Allah!

Islaamic Sight Word Book: Fast

السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته

Alhamdulillaah, here is the sixth book in the Islaamic Sight Words Series.  Now that Ramadan has begun alhamdulillaah, children are hearing the word fast very, very often. In'shaa Allaah, this sight word book will help them learn how to spell the word that is on the lips of Muslims world-wide during this blessed month.

The instructions for all activities are included in the mini-book, however, if you have any questions about any of the activities, please leave a comment and I will do my best to answer as soon as possible in'shaa allaah. And jazakillaahu khayr to the sister who suggested adding the Arabic word for the sight words, at the end of each book. Going forward in'shaa Allaah, the sight word books will have the word in Arabic for children to colour and learn.
