Quran Centre Word Work: Surah Al-Asr

السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته

Alhamdulillaah, here is the workbook for surah al-Asr.

In this workbook, students will be introduced to two new icons:

On page 2 of the workbook, children are asked to indicate where the letters appear in the word. For example, is the alif the first or third letter in the word; is the lam the fifth or third letter in the word, etc. Students write the numbers 1-5 over each letter to indicate where in the word the letter appears.

On page 6 of the workbook, students have fluency strips. These strips are to be cut out and students practice saying this part of the ayat until they read it fluently in shaa' Allaah. The red dot tells the student where to begin, and the blue arrow reminds the child to read through the phrase on the strip from right to left.

All other icons and activities should be familiar to students. Additionally, the remaining activities in the book are self-explanatory in shaa' Allaah, but if not, please do not hesitate to leave a comment and ask for clarification.

You can download the workbook here or above in shaa' Allaah.

Quran Centre Word Work: Surat Al-Humazah

السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته

Alhamdulillaah, here is the workbook for surat Al-Humazah.
In this workbook, students will be introduced to several new icons:
On the page where students recite to someone else, there is a chart for each student to write the name of the person they recited to, and there is space for that person to "sign" his or her name indicating that they listened to the student recite the surah.

All other icons and activities should be familiar to students. Additionally, the remaining activities in the book are self-explanatory in shaa' Allaah, but if not, please do not hesitate to leave a comment and ask for clarification.

You can download the workbook here or above in shaa' Allaah.

Quran Centre Word Work: Suratal Fil

السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته

Alhamdulillaah, here is the workbook for suratal fil

The format of this workbook is almost identical to the workbooks for surah Quraysh and surah al-Ikhlas; there are only two variations in this workbook.

There are two pages that have interactive elements, indicated by the picture of the glue. Students will cut out the interactive elements, located on the last page of the workbook, glue them on the picture of the glue and under the flap, they will write the word found in the circle on the page. Be sure to tell students that they will not cut on the dotted line, they will fold the element along the dotted line.

The other variation is that students will not cut and paste the ayaat of the surah to put the ayaat in the correct order. In this workbook, students will cut out the ayaat and then they have the option to time themselves to see how quickly they can put the ayaat in order accurately. This page has a chart with a picture of a calendar and a timer for students to record their results. Having students time themselves is, of course, optional. This page is to help students see how proficiently they have memorized the surah and it helps them see if they need to continue working on their memorization.

In shaa' Allaah, the remaining activities in the book are self-explanatory, but if not, please do not hesitate to leave a comment and ask for clarification.

You can download the workbook here or above in shaa' Allaah.

Arabic Letters Handwriting Workbook in French?

السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته

Maybe insha'Allaah....if one of our French speaking sisters would be very kind and review this file, identify the errors, and supply the corrections, a French version will be added to the original post insha'Allaah.

Unfortunately, this cannot be done for other languages due to the fact that it is time consuming BUT....(ears perked up sah...*smile*).....the first person to leave a comment indicating that they are willing to send me the translated text (including those pesky Terms of Use) for the language they would like the book in, will have the book in that language added to the original post insha'Allaah.

Conditions:

  1. The translated text must be sent to me within one week or the next comment in line will be chosen.
  2. Translated text must be sent either in the body of the email or in a MS Word file.
*Remember: comments are moderated but blogger keeps them in order alhamdulillaah so do not worry if you do not see your comment appear right away.*

Ready....set....GO! (Comment has been received alhamdulillaah)

*Sis Umm Lynah, jazakillaahu khayr for your comment. Please send the Dutch text to me using the 'Contact Me' button on the right hand side of the page. Insha'Allaah, the book in Dutch will be added to this post in about 1 week.*

Arabic Letters Handwriting Workbook

السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته

*Post Updated!*

Also in Dutch! Download below insha'Allaah!

Now in French! Download the file below insha'Allaah!

This Arabic letters handwriting workbook provides children with the opportunity to shape each letter with play-doh, recognize each letter as it appears in isolation, in the middle of a word and at the end of a word. Children also practice writing each letter in each of the three above-mentioned forms. When done, children are given the opportunity to locate and identify each letter in actual words, helping to support letter recognition insha'Allaah.

The book is meant to be (but you don't have to) printed on card stock, laminated and bound so that students can use a dry-erase marker to use the workbook repeatedly for handwriting and letter formation practice (with play-doh) insha'Allaah. To keep cost down you can print the workbook on card stock and instead of laminating each page, use clear shelf liner, and then bind it.

Click on the picture for a close up view insha'Allaah
This book has a vinyl cover on both the front and back, is spiral bound, and has clear shelf liner only on the bottom half of the page where students will do their work.

To use the book in your Quraan or writing centres you can print, laminate, and bind two or three copies, provide a basket with three different colours of play-doh and put three black dry-erase markers in a cup. To avoid disagreements about who will use which colour play-doh you can buy the round dot stickers from your local dollar store and place a dot sticker that corresponds to the colour of play-doh for each book on the top right hand corner of the book cover. When students have their time at that centre the teacher can have a laminated sheet (this way you can use a dry erase marker to change the students names as needed insha'Allaah) at the centre (tapped to the table or hung on the wall at the students' eye level) that has the same colour dot and next to it a space for the student's name who will use that colour that day. Students simply look at the chart, find their name and see which colour dot is next to their name and they know which book and which colour play-doh they will use that day. So on Monday, for example, next to the red dot on the sheet is Abul Aziz's name. He will use the handwriting book with the red dot on its cover and the red play- doh to do his work insha'Allaah.

The workbook is not intended to replace direct instruction but is intended to support it. The workbook can be used to allow children extra practice or to assign homework for additional practice insha'Allaah. There are no graphics that will distract the child from the goal of producing precise formation of the letters and attending to the text.

Enjoy insha'Allaah!

Quraan Centre Word Work: Surah Al-Ma'un Activities & Workbook

السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته

Alhamdulillaah, this is the word work for surah Al-Ma'un:

This word work pack marks the beginning of students moving forward to begin learning to identify the Arabic letters in their different forms (i.e. in isolation, beginning, middle and end).

The workbook maintains the same familiar format but the focus of the word work pack itself is on the letter ya and how it is written in isolation, in the beginning of a word, in the middle of a word and at the end of a word.

The activities in this word work book are (by page number):

- Pages 7-8: A site word board game for the surah - you can use a spinner and child safe game pieces of your choice for this game. Children can spin the spinner and when they land on a word, if they can read it, they stay on that space, if not, they do not move from their current place on the board. Play continues in this way until a child reaches the word finish. This game would be played at the end of the word work unit so that students have had sufficient exposure to all of the words in the surah insha'Allaah.

- Page 9: Making words - the teacher/parent-teacher cuts the words cards in two and the students must rematch the cards to make the correct words from the surah.

- Page 10: A Worksheet that helps students with visual discrimination. They must select the word that does not belong in each group.

- Pages 11 - 13: Word work mats that children can either use with Play-Doe, colour, paint, etc. This activity is a fine motor skill activity to help students prepare for learning to write or to practice and improve writing skills insha'Allaah.

- Pages 14 -15: Templates for sandpaper letters for the letter ya in its different positions. (Yemeni Links.com has sandpaper templates for all of the Arabic alphabet as they appear in isolation masha'Allaah. I made these specifically for this letter focus).

- Pages 16 - 18: Children sort words from the surah based on where the letter ya is at in the word (i.e. beginning, middle or end) and there is also a memory game with words from the surah that have ya in its different positions.

- Pages 19-20: Children have the word hunt (all words have the letter ya in its different forms) and also words to sort. For this word sort activity, you will use the same sorting mat found in the previous word work packets insha'Allaah. You can download a mat from this word work pack insha'Allaah.

- Page 21-24: Selected words from the surah that have the letter ya in its different forms. These words can be used on bulletin boards, word walls, or as flashcards.

Insha'Allaah, your students/children benefit and enjoy this. Before downloading this file, please take a moment to read the terms of use (if you haven't already done so) for this and all resources on A Muslim Child is born. Jazakum Allaahu Khayr.  The file is available for download here insha'allaah.

Quraan Centre Word Work: Surah Al-Kawthar Activities & Workbook

السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته

Alhamdulillaah, this is the word work for surah Al-Kawthar:

In this packet children go on a word hunt for post-it notes that have words from this surah on them. They also continue identifying letters in isolation, work on their handwriting and sort words from the surah. Also included in this pack are three boards that have three different words from the surah on them. These boards can be laminated and used for fine motor skill work with Play-Doe, or students can use dry-erase markers to colour them in, erase and colour again. Children have their workbook where they identify words from each ayah in the surah and more!

Insha'Allaah, your students/children benefit and enjoy this. Please note that all material on A Muslim Child is Born is copyrighted by Umm An-Nu'man unless otherwise noted. Arabic Letter Identification Cards (Beginning, Middle and End Positions)

السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته

A sister requested more cards to add to the set from this post. Dear sis, here are 8 more cards to add to the existing cards. If you need more than this please let me know. It may be a few weeks before I can upload more but insha'Allaah, for the sake of Allaah, I will be happy to do so.

These cards are used with children who have a firm grasp of the Arabic alphabet and are ready to begin identifying them in their initial, medial and end positions insha'Allaah. Using a do-a-dot marker or a plastic chip, children indicate which letter is highlighted in red.

Enjoy insha'Allaah!

Alphabet Wrist-Bands

السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته

This Arabic letter activity is a fun way to help reinforce what students have been learning about the letter you have been teaching. This is an alphabet wrist band.

Students are given a strip (printed on cardstock for durability) with the letter of the week and pictures that start with that letter. They are invited to colour their wrist bands and then the teacher/parent uses a hole-puncher to make two holes at each end of the band. With a small piece of yarn, secure the wrist-band to the child's right wrist.

Print and cut out large cards that show the same pictures that are on the wrist band. Hide them around the classroom/your home and invite students to tell you when they happen upon a picture card that matches a picture on their wrist band. When they point out the card, ask them what the picture shows and what letter it begins with. If they are correct, you can choose to place a star sticker on their wrist band (you may wish to ask the child if they want their sticker on the inside of the wristband so the letters and pictures are not obscured).

To add a level of difficulty, include pictures that start with the letter you are studying but are not on the wrist bands but students are familiar with insha'Allaah. See if students can accurately identify that the other pictures they find also start with the letter you are studying. Again, if you wish to give a sticker when the student finds and accurately identifies the picture and its beginning sound, this is at your discretion.

*If your child(ren) are small enough, you can glue the wrist bands onto empty toilet paper rolls and then cut the rolls so that each band is already round. Then just use the hole-punch to make two holes at opposite ends of the band.*

If you wish to use the band and cards for the letter Kaaf, you can download them below insha'Allaah. The file for a class has 7 wrist bands on the page and one set of picture cards. The file for the small group has 3 bands and the picture cards. The words on the picture cards and their pronunciation can be found on the harf (letter) Kaaf postcard.

Arabic Alphabet Memory Games (all letters)

السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته

In addition to the Kaaf Activity book, I also made a Kaaf memory game for toddlers to play insha'Allaah.

So much fun was had that I decided to make a memory game for each letter of the Arabic alphabet. These games are also a great way to reinforce/re-teach the names of the colours for young toddlers who are just learning this (i.e. the colours). For the game pictured, I just printed the cards and then glued them to the back of a box that had a colourful pattern on it. Each game has 8 cards in the set (each letter in the same colour twice). When introducing memory to toddlers, I usually start with 4 cards and increase them as the child begins to grasp the concept and comfortably plays the game. Here are all of the games to download insha'Allaah:

These can be used along with the Arabic Letter Postcards and Alphabet Activity Books too insha'Allaah.

Enjoy insha'Allaah!

Arabic Letters Bingo (Beginner and Intermeadiate Games)

السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته

These Arabic Letter Bingo Boards with the different vowel marks were an idea that I realized, late, may already be available on the Internet for free (I didn't google first..hehe) but I was almost done so I thought...maybe you can use them? Each game has four (4) boards (each with a different design). If you have a class, you can print boards from each set and give students different boards insha'Allaah. The call cards and tahave no tashkeel (vowel marks) so you can print off as many copies as is needed and write in the vowel marks to allow you to mix the game up if you'd like insha'Allaah. This way your caller will be calling out letters from each board (but it may make the game last a bit longer). Also, here are the call cards for the two letters ta marbota and hamza as I forgot to include them with the first set subhana'Allaah.

The first is for beginners. The letters as they appear in isolation with no tashkeel are presented. The caller would simply call the name of letters in random order based on which card he/she picks from the stack of call cards. Download this game here insha'Allaah.

The second version has the letters as they appear in isolation but with the fatha on each letter. So the caller would say, "Ba fatha ba" instead of just ba. This will help children learn how each letter is pronounced with the fatha and it helps the child who is the caller because he/she has to say almost the entire alphabet with the fatha! *smile*. There are four (4) different game boards in this file also. Download this game here insha'Allaah.

The third version as you've probably guessed is has the letters as they appear in isolation but with the kesra on each letter. So the caller would say, "Ba kesra bee" instead of just ba. There are four (4) different game boards in this file also. Download this game here insha'Allaah.

And the last version, yes, has the dumma with the letters as they appear in isolation but with the dumma on each letter. Download this game here insha'Allaah.

Enjoy insha'Allaah!

Arabic Letter Games for Mixed Level Classes

السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته

These are two games intended for classes with students who have varying levels of knowledge of the Arabic letters. I did these just to see if I am on the right track.  If this is too easy or not conducive to your class setting (for the individual who requested activities for this class situation), please do let me know and I can have another go at it insha'Allaah *smile*. If, however, these are on the right track walhamdulillah, I can (if needed) do a few more games for your class insha'Allaah.

The first game is a letter hunt called 'Find Me':

In the file, there are letter cards for each letter of the Arabic alphabet. There are two sets, one set has a background (sample pictured above) and the other set does not. Students are divided into two equal groups (if possible) and each student is given a card. Group 1 would be given a card from the coloured background set of cards and group 2 students would each receive cards that have a white background.

Invite the students to seek out the student who has the letter that matches the letter on their card. This exercise requires that students ask each other to see their cards, thus exposing them to seeing many Arabic letters as they search for their matching partner. You can also ask the students to add language to the activity by asking them to say to a student (as they are searching for their match), "Assalamu alaikum. I have the letter ___. What letter do you have?" The other student would then respond, "Waalaikum assalam. I have the letter ____.  Subhana'Allaah, my letter does not match your letter." The students then move on to the next person and repeat the same dialogue. This ensures each student hears a variety of letters as they search, which insha'Allaah will help them with recognition and memorization insha'Allaah.

Control of Error is built into the game in the following manner: there are different flowers on each letter card (no two flowers are the same on any given letter but the letters on both sets of cards each have the same flower to match - i.e. the alif card with a coloured background has the same flower as the alif card with the white background). If a student believes she has found her match, both students can self-check by verifying that their flowers are the same, if they are not, they know they need to continue their serach insha'Allaah.

The second activity is for students who have a firm grasp of the letters and may be ready to begin identifying the letters as they look when connected:

This activity is called 'What Letter?'. Each student is given a card (like the two cards pictured above). The student is then given a Do-a-Dot marker (pictured below) or some sort of marker (i.e. a penny, plastic chip, etc.) to indicate the correct answer insha'Allaah. I recommend laminating these cards to allow for the use of the Do-a-Dot marker and so that they can be reused insha'Allaah.

The students then look at the picture and words and mark on the bottom, in the circles, which letter is highlighted in red above. The students do not need to be able to read the words, they only need to be able to identify the highlighted letter and know what that letter is and what it looks like in isolation. When the student is done, he/she can switch cards with another student who has accurately completed his/her card and cleaned if off before switching insha'Allaah.

To the requester of these materials: If you feel that these activities are of the type you feel may benefit your students and would like a few more, please leave a comment and I will do my best to upload more games/activities insha'Allaah. Or, if you need something different please also leave a comment and I will...what do they say? Go back to the drawing board insha'Allaah *smile* . Jazakum Allaahu Khayr.

Enjoy insha'Allaah!
