Ramadan Readiness: Sight Word Workmats for the Blessed Month

السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته

Alhamdulillaah, the month of Ramadan approaches. It's time to start thinking about getting our littlest ones ready to enjoy, learn about, and participate in this blessed month
in shaa' Allaah. Although our smallest are too young to really understand why we fast and for Whom we fast, we can still help them learn about this month in a way that is developmentally appropriate in shaa' Allaah.

One way to help children between 3-5 years old begin to learn about Ramadan is by having quick, easy activities on hand that are Ramadan related. One goal to complete before Ramadan (I'll do my best, but I make no promises ~smile~) is to post 30 Ramadan Sight Word work mats. These work mats will contain sight words that teach children words about/related to Ramadan; each mat will have cut/paste, writing, colouring activities, and alphabet activities. They are simple, one-page mats that will allow you to print quickly and only need a minimum amount of materials in order for your child to complete the mat in shaa' Allaah.

These mats were also designed with masaajids in mind: when the adults are praying taraweeh, the smallest can be given a mat to complete along with other quiet activities
in shaa' Allaah.

Also, each mat comes with the sight word in large print so parents can, if they choose, start a Ramadan word wall. Each time the child completes a mat, that new word can be added to the word wall and parents can develop other activities that use the word wall (e.g. draw a picture and write a sentence using one of the words on the Ramadan word wall). The work mats can be used separately or they can be used with other Ramadan activities.

The first work mat is the word fast You can download the first mat here in shaa' Allaah, and check back soon for the next sight word, pray.

Benefit & Enjoy in shaa' Allah!
