Ramadan Activity # 2: Travel Ramadan Puzzles and Matching Game

Assalamu alaikum,
Road trip! I remember as a child I used to love road trips. We used to take along snacks, toys and little mini-activity packs to keep ourselves entertained as we made our way to our destination. What I remember liking especially well was the mini-activities. There's something about small things that children like - perhaps because they are kid-sized. Allahu alim.

Thinking of that and talking with my co-blogger (the one who is too shy to post!...lol), I had an idea: why not make a mini-Ramadan travel activity for the kids to play with as they make their way from iftar to iftar during the month of Ramadan insha'Allah. Mind you, this idea hit me at about 1:00 a.m.! But alhamdulillah, I remembered it when I woke up and when the house was asleep I had a chance to have a go at it alhamdulillah. Here is what I came up with:

Ramadan Travel Puzzles - Little kid-sized puzzles for infants/toddlers 15 months and older insha'Allah, that have pictures related to activities that Muslims do during Ramadan. Cut them out, laminate them (or just put a coating of ModgePodge on them ) and pack them in a small box and when you hop into the car for a road trip (even to the market) and bring them along and allow your child to have fun in the back seat insha'Allah.

Ramadan Travel Puzzles

Ramadan Travel Matching Mats - These are three mats that have the same pictures that the puzzles have that show different activities that Muslims do during Ramadan. There are picture cards that allow your child to match them with the pictures on the mats insha'Allah. The mats get progressively more difficult to challenge your child as he/she acquires skill and proficiency insha'Allah. So, mat 1 has only one word under the pictures, mat 2 has two word sentences and mat 3 has three or 4 word sentences to help your child match the picture cards and also practice matching pictures with words and eventually reading short sentences insha'Allah. Again, great for the car. Print them out. Laminate the mats and picture cards (cut the individual picture cards out before you laminate them insha'Allah), and add them to your travel activity box insha'Allah.
