This idea was inspired by this post over at Handmade Beginnings (jazakillahu khayr dear sis for the inspiration!). Because some sisters children are too young to be up when the moon is clearly visible in the night sky I wanted to do something for them to have fun with. Sooo...we decided to do an activity indoors during the day that would give the little ones a chance to share in the excitement of seeing the moon (well, not the real one but construction paper moons cause excitement too....hehehe). What did we do? We made Ramadan Moon Sighters.
I later paired this activity with the book from this post.
That was really enjoyed because they connected the hilal with the first page of the story alhamdulillah.
After these are all made, cut large moons from construction paper, tape them up on the wall, and invite young tots to scour the room with their moon finders and find a moon. Here, there was lots of cheering when a tot succeeded in finding a moon and smaller tots of course, should get lots of loving help and encouragement *smile*.
For older tots you can extend this activity by writing letters or numbers on the construction paper moons and challenge the child to find a certain letter or number insha'Allah. Or, for children that are reading simple, two and three letter words alhamdulillah, you can write small words that they are familiar with on the moons and challenge them to use their moon finders to find the words on the moons. Try to hide the moons where it will be a challenge for them (but not impossible or frustrating) to find them insha'Allah.
What you'll need for this is very simple alhamdulillah:
- Paint, stickers, glitter, markers or crayons
- Construction paper
Invite the children to decorate their moon finders and when they are done, stick up your moons and have fun sighting the moon little ones!
Enjoy insha'Allah!
assalam alaikum
ReplyDeleteI've seen this project at sister Eva's blog, and since then I wanted to make such moon finders for my son. We already have moons hanging all over our living room curtains as Ramadan decoration, inshaAllaah, we'll be using your ideas soon! JazakiAllaah khair!
Waalaikum assalam wa rahmatullah,
ReplyDeleteOh! She did moon finders?! I didn't see them...I'll have to go back over and see insha'Allah...hehe...I'm sure they're delightful masha'Allah.
I hope you and your family will enjoy the activity insha'Allah.
Jazakillahu Khayr dear sis
